So I’ve been with the competition for over 5 years. After a bad experience with a Nuki Pro 5, I have switched to Tedee and installed a Tedee PRO and a Keypad pro.
I ordered the kit locally in the UK from a reseller and it came with a custom Tedee PRO compatible cylinder. The install was super simple and surprisingly easy and quick. The mounting plate of my previous lock was fiddly to mount and lock onto the cylinder with the 3 small grub screws. They were in awkward positions and hard to see.
The Tedee Pro just slipped onto the new cylinder and with one easy to see grub screw it was locked onto the cycler with no chance of falling off. That was a major bonus over my other lock with its cheap plastic rim that fits on the mounting plate.
The Tedee Pro has a sturdy build quality to it. I could feel the difference when I first took it out the box. This small lock is built like a tank and they even managed to make the button on the end actually work, another win over the previous lock.
The set-up was easy and it linked directly into my Apple Home set up with ease. The manual calibration process seemed a bit weird until you realise the level of control it gives you. I’m totally won over as the automatic calibration of other locks takes the lock to both extremes, open as far it will go and then close as far as it will go. This approach is a total waste of power. The manual calibration allowed me to set the actual open and locked positions meaning the Tedee Pro is actually very quick to open and very very quiet compared to my previous lock. I’m totally sold on manual calibration and the benefits of this approach.
I also got the Keypad Pro and Tedee were the only manufacturer who sold the keypad in white. Another reason I was keen to go with Tedee as my new lock, the main reason Wass the TrustPilot score. If I’m totally honest I found it difficult to get the mounting plate off the back of the keypad at first but I got there in the end. It was super easy to mount with screws just under my Aqara G410 video doorbell. It looks great the two of them in white on my white doorframe.
The keypad linked to the lock with ease and I added my finger print to the keypad and tested it worked okay.
The software is simpler, better organised and easy to use. I use my eve door sensor via homekit to lock the door when the door is closed. It’s a universal solution and works a treat with the Tedee Pro. The Auto Unlock feature also worked first time, another win over the previous lock as it took a few attempts to get it working but it did improve over time.
My only concern is the speed in the connection with homekit. My previous lock connected over thread and it was much faster. The Tedee Pro connects over bluetooth, it’s quite a bit slower (it often sits at updating for 3-5 seconds) but it still works well as I use the Apple Home app a lot.
This is a quiet lock and responds very quickly to a button press. Unlock and locking very quickly. It has a great build quality and easy to install, Auto Unlock works well and saves me reaching for the fingerprint sensor, although that’s still an option should Auto Unlock fail. It’s a 5 star product for sure!
