Hello Tedee Team,
I would like to share an idea for enhancing the Auto-Unlock functionality. I currently use the basic Tedee lock (no bridge, only Bluetooth) with an iPhone, and I really enjoy the feature that allows the door to open automatically when I return home after being away. However, I believe this feature could be improved with minimal development effort.
Current Limitation:
At the moment, the auto-unlock only activates if I move more than 150–200 meters away from my home. This limitation means that if I take a short walk or step outside briefly, the auto-unlock doesn’t trigger when I return.
Suggested Improvement:
My idea is to eliminate the need to rely solely on the 150m distance and instead allow users to manually indicate when they are leaving the house — without using the phone.
Here’s how it could work:
- User presses the Tedee button (on the lock) before closing the door, signaling that they are leaving.
- After a configurable delay (e.g., 60 seconds — enough time to move out of Bluetooth range), the Auto-Unlock mode activates.
- When the user returns and the phone reconnects via Bluetooth, the door unlocks automatically — without the need to take the phone out of the pocket.
Benefits of This Approach:
- No need to interact with the phone — just use the Tedee button.
- Auto-Unlock works even for short trips, without the 150m distance requirement.
- Simple implementation — uses existing Bluetooth logic with a small tweak.
- Enhanced user experience — seamless leaving and returning without pulling out the phone.
I believe this improvement would make the Tedee lock even more intuitive and user-friendly, and I imagine many users would appreciate this flexibility.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Feel free to reach out if you need any clarification.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Best regards,
