Hi everyone,
I’m using a Tedee smart lock integrated with Home Assistant, but I’ve noticed a limitation: when the lock is opened manually (with a key or by turning the cylinder), HA does not detect the change in state and still shows the door as locked.
I’ve also checked via the Tedee API, but the result is the same: the state doesn’t update if the motor isn’t used.
Has anyone found a solution or workaround to detect manual openings?
For example, does Tedee have an internal sensor or some setting that allows the state to update even without using the motor?
Or is the only option to add an external door sensor?
Hi, Sorry but I don’t use Home Assistant, I only use Apple Home (HomeKit) and I get the notifications when I manually open the lock by hand either using a key or manually turning the Tedee PRO.
I know that may not be 100% useful but I can confirm it does track manual movement very well.
Yes, HA also detects manual opening movements, but the problem is that the status then remains unknown, so the automations linked to the status, which only react with “open” or “closed”, do not work.
Ah okay. I don’t have any automations running off the back of the Tedee locking or unlocking. I only have automations based on my Eve door sensor detecting when the door is opened or closed.
Mine works pretty reliably in HA, I do have a door sensor though so maybe that makes a difference. I also have mine as escutcheon only (no handle) so my door is either ‘locked’ or ‘open’, it’s never closed but unlocked.
That said I use an Aqara door sensor for my automations as the Tedee often reports status 8-10s late, sometimes out of order too. I couldn’t ever figure out why.
See in this screenshot the door starts unlocking at 04s then the ‘Ultion’ (I stuffed an Aqara in the Ultion mag insert) reports open. The ‘unlocked’ status comes through 5s later, AFTER the opening and open statuses from the Tedee even.
The ‘open’ delay is only a couple of seconds this time but it can sometimes be 8-10 in my experience.
Funny thing! In my HomeKit setup I had a similar issue with the door sensor reporting the door was opened before the Tedee reported it was unlocked. However when I was experiencing a thread meltdown I moved my main home hub from the Apple TV 4K to a HomePod and bingo all the notifications where now in the correct order. Been that way ever since.
my HomePods are closer to the front door. The Tedee Pro is Bluetooth and the door sensor is matter over thread.
